Black History Month 2013 Events

January 28, 2013 - All four BCC Campuses are offering a collection of activites designed to educate, enlighten and entertain during the college-wide 2013 celebration of Black History Month throughout February. Events are listed by the sponsoring Campus.

Cocoa Campus Black History Month Activities

This year’s theme: "Historical Journey of the Standard-Bearers: Honoring Those That Lit The Way." In addition to the activities listed below, a special historical display will be located in the Cocoa BCC/UCF Joint Use Library (Bldg. 12).

February 5
Lunch-n-Learn: Diversity Awareness Sponsored by SGA

February 7
Gospel Extravaganza hosted by the African-American Student Union

Storytelling - Stories of History told by Rosemary McGill

One Love Event hosted by Rotaract Club

February 16
Day of Service Challenge hosted by Service Learning
Join Students for a community service project to clean and beautify the “City Cemetery for the Colored” in Cocoa
9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

February 23
Soul Fest
Noon – 3 p.m., Cocoa Campus Amphitheater and surrounding areas
This event is open to the public.
Cost: Students $5/General Public $10
Festival to include: Soul Food Cook-Off, Walk for Freedom (underground railroad reenactment around the lake on campus- led by students); Heath Fair, Children’s Activities (bounce house, face painting, BHM artwork), Food and other vendors, music and entertainment.

One Act Play: "Walk Don’t Ride" - performed by Cocoa Campus Theatre Department

Palm Bay Campus Black History Month Activities

Feb. 4 - Feb. 28: Each day of the month (Mon. - Thurs.) a film on Black History Month will play throughout the day in the student lounge. This year’s theme is: "At the Crossroads of Freedom and Equality: The Emancipation Proclamation and the March on Washington."
