Apply for General Admission to EFSC
Complete and properly submit the application for general admission to Eastern Florida State College. There is a $30 non-refundable application fee for admission that must be submitted at the time of application to the college. This application is available online. Complete all general admissions requirements with the main EFSC Admissions office.
Please note that applications are processed in the order they were received and application processing time may take up to seven days. Check your email frequently for your acceptance letter.
NOTE: This step pertains ONLY to those students who are not currently enrolled with the college. If you’re a returning/readmit student who applied to EFSC one or more years ago and have not completed a course in the past year, you must re-apply and can do so online and will not be charged the general EFSC application fee.
Verify General Admissions Requirements & Check for Registration Holds
If you are a new EFSC student, your general admissions acceptance letter and email will list admissions requirements that you must complete to avoid holds that would prevent you from registering for courses if accepted into the cosmetology program. You can also review how to complete these general requirements on EFSC's accepted students' page.
If you are an existing EFSC student, you need to verify that you do not have any holds that would prevent course registration if you are accepted into the program. Visit the Registration Holds webpage for details on how to check your EFSC Message Center for holds and how to clear them.
Complete Application for Cosmetology Program
After you have received your general EFSC Admissions Acceptance letter or if you are a current EFSC student, complete the online Cosmetology Program application. Your general admissions acceptance letter will include your Student ID number and password required to access your myEFSC account so you can log in and submit the limited access Cosmetology application. The limited access application is in addition to the general application and MUST be properly submitted by the application deadline.
An UNOFFICIAL copy of each college transcript is required with the program application. Unofficial EFSC transcripts can be accessed via FloridaShines.
If pursuing an additional program within the Cosmetology department, you are required to submit a separate application packet for each desired program. If you need assistance with this application or cannot apply online, contact the program advisor:
Submit the Required Letter of Recommendation and Optional Essay
Students must submit AT LEAST ONE, but no more than three, letters of recommendation from a teacher, colleague or other professional stating why they feel you would be a good candidate for the Cosmetology program. This letter must be submitted on company/school letterhead and can be scanned and sent as an attachment via email to Sherry Van Winkle, Advisor at email@example.com
Applicants can also earn optional selection criteria points for submitting a typed, one-page essay answering the question "Why I've Chosen Cosmetology?" Send the essay via email to Sherry Van Winkle, Advisor at firstname.lastname@example.org
Take the TABE Test
The TABE (Test for Adult Basic Education - 11/12 Level A) is required as an exit exam to graduate from the Cosmetology program.
The TABE test can be taken at EFSC and the requirement or exemption can be submitted during the admission's process and earn points as part of the selection criteria.
Submit TABE scores to program advisor Sherry Van Winkle at email@example.com
If you qualify for a TABE exemption, please submit documentation from the EFSC Assessment Center staff.
The TABE must have been taken within the last TWO (2) years. Under Florida Statute, enrolled students must complete TABE testing or qualify for an exemption by the sixth week of class. This allows time for retesting if needed. Visit the TABE web page for details on taking the TABE, required scores and how to qualify for an exemption.
