Coronavirus (COVID-19) Reporting & Contact Tracing
Eastern Florida State College has developed the COVID-19 Case Tracking Procedure discussed
below to assist College officials with ensuring the proper direction and guidance
to students, staff, or faculty for four (4) specific scenarios. Those scenarios include
persons who:
1. Have tested Positive for COVID-19 with Symptoms, or
2. Have tested Positive for COVID-19 without Symptoms, or
3. Are experiencing Symptoms related to COVID-19 but have not been tested, or
4. Have had “Close Contact” with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
If someone on an EFSC Campus falls under one of those scenarios, they should move to an area that is socially distanced from others, wear a mask and contact an EFSC security officer to assess the situation and begin the initial reporting process.
CLOSE CONTACT is currently defined by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) as one
or more of the following:
• You were within 6 feet of someone who has COVID-19 (with or without facial coverings)
for at least 15 minutes starting from 2 days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic
clients, 2 days prior to a positive test for COVID-19) until the time the patient
is isolated;
• Or you provided care at home to someone who has COVID-19;
• Or you had direct physical contact with someone who has COVID-19 (touched, hugged,
or kissed them);
• Or you shared eating or drinking utensils with someone who has COVID-19;
• Or someone who has COVID-19 sneezed, coughed, or somehow got respiratory droplets
on you.
While it is essential that Colleges take all proactive safety precautions necessary and react in an expeditious manner to protect all persons on campus, it is also important that students not be negatively impacted by overreacting or misinterpreting the guidance of the CDC. If persons on campus continue to abide by the CDC guidelines regarding social distancing requirements, it will reduce the need to direct additional students, staff, or faculty to self-isolate.

Process for reporting COVID-19 symptoms and the role of EFSC's COVID-19 Response Officers (C19-RO)
Persons who report symptoms of COVID-19 will be directed to self-isolate in accordance with CDC guidelines. Symptoms of COVID-19 can be mild to severe and may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. Symptoms of COVID-19 may include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting or diarrhea.
EFSC's Case Tracking Procedure includes four (4) forms that the College's COVID-19 Response Officer will utilize to document the various scenarios. Appreviated as C19-RO, the COVID-19 Response Officer could be an EFSC security officer or other college employee designated to take the initial student or employee report and then follow it through to resolution, including coordination of the necessary campus-related contact tracing and return to campus approval. Each scenario will include the “Earliest Date of Return,” which is calculated differently depending on the specific scenario method detailed on the appropriate form.
Initial Reporting of COVID-19 Symptoms, Positive Test or Potential Close Contact
Student Process (Including if staff need to report a student case)
Use the link in the box below that best fits the situation. If a faculty or staff
member needs to report a potential student case, be sure to also use the links for
the student process.
Employee Process
EFSC faculty and staff who have symptoms, have tested positive or potentially been
exposed, should choose the link below for the procedure details that apply.
Students - On Campus
On campus students who advise faculty or staff that they either have symptoms, have tested positive, or have had a potential close contact exposure should socially distance and contact security.
Very Ill Students
If an on-campus student is feeling very sick, the faculty or staff member should contact security immediately, provide the student's information and assist with seeking medical attention.
Off-Campus Students
Students who are off campus with COVID-19 symptoms, who've tested positive, or with a close contact exposure, will be instructed to contact the Associate Provost’s Office on their campus.
Faculty/Staff - On Campus
On-campus faculty or staff with symptoms of COVID-19, a positive test, or a potential close contact exposure, should socially distance from others and contact campus security to start the reporting process.
Very Ill Employees
If an on-campus employee is feeling very sick, they should seek immediate medical attention. In severe cases, 911 should be called to assess and assist as a safety precaution even if transport is refused.
Off-Campus Employees
Employees who are off campus while experiencing symptoms, receiving a positive test notification, or with a close contact exposure, should contact Human Resources, AVP, Darla Ferguson.
